Community education & public awareness

LEI believe that community centred land administration is fundamental to sustainable development. In particular, we emphasise the involvement of women and other disadvantaged groups to ensure project interventions target the needs of vulnerable groups and therefore generate the most significant impact. We realise that reforms will only succeed if they have the support and participation of the communities they are intended to benefit. We therefore focus on building community confidence and trust in the land administration system.

Land administration is a powerful mechanism for empowering vulnerable groups particularly women and the poor. Workshops, community forums and private meetings with target groups are designed to ensure all stakeholders are actively engaged in participation in the land registration process and in decision making.

Our approach is to develop partnerships with government counterparts, stakeholders, NGO’s and civil society. The partnership approach helps to foster a culture of mutual learning, lesson sharing and commitment to change whilst additionally empowering participants through their involvement in the development process.
