Meet the Directors

Sam Durland, Chairperson

Sam has many years' experience as a management consultant in public practice specialising in the provision of strategic advice and management training and development to clients in a wide range of public and private sector activity, both in Australia and overseas. He has assisted international development project teams to design and implement comprehensive management systems and worked with several international organisations to develop and administer a variety of stakeholder surveys. Sam has also provided detailed advice on the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks based on highly participatory, self-evaluative approaches. He has obtained a good understanding of land issues in developing countries through his involvement in several innovative schemes to mobilise land held by customary tenure for commercial purposes and enable traditional owners to become equity participants in major resource-based ventures.

Tony Burns, Managing Director

Tony has extensive experience in surveying, mapping and land management, particularly with regard to multi disciplinary teams in developing countries, with over ten years involvement at management levels on AusAID financed projects. He has over 20 years experience in land management and natural resource projects covering the full project cycle. He is an acknowledged expert in project design, land policy review, evaluation of cadastral survey and mapping procedures, land titling, land administration and spatial information systems.


Ian Lloyd, Director

Currently team leader of the Philippines-Australia Land Administration and Management Project (phase 2), Ian is an internationally recognised land administration expert. He has over 20 years experience in land administration reform. He has been part of the core management team of the model land titling and administration projects in Thailand and Indonesia. As team leader of the Laos Land Titling Project (1997 - 2000), he established a strong track record in project management and a reputation for delivering successful outcomes through cooperation with all project partners. In particular, Ian understands and appreciates the importance of the role of community engagement, community participating and gender equity in the successful outcomes of land administration projects.

Chris Lunnay, Director

Chris is a former senior land administration executive from the Australian public sector who has worked on land administration projects in ten different countries over the last 14 years. He is an experienced project manager with exceptional team leadership skills and experience. Chris was the Team Leader of the Lao PDR Property Rights and Land Titling Project (2000 - 2005) and previously held the position of team leader of the Indonesia Land Titling Project, the largest land administration project of its time. Chris has a good understanding of the needs of beneficiaries of development assistance developed through his many years of field experience. He combines his leadership skills with a sound technical background in surveying and land registration developed during his years as a senior public servant in Australia and culminating in his appointment as Director of Surveys for South Australia.

Louise Meyrick, Board Member

Louise is an experienced company director and international development consultant. She is a company director and the Wollongong manager of Meyrick and Associates. With 20 years consulting experience she has completed studies on transport planning and reform for organisations such as DoTARS, the Australian Council of Transport Ministers, Ports Australia, the ALC and UNESCAP. Over the last three years she has completed seven AusLink studies. She has assisted in privatisation bids and completed studies of ownership, investment and risk/reward sharing models for infrastructure projects. She has served for two terms as a director of Port Kembla Port Corporation, and has also advised on port restructuring and assisted in the design of new port corporations throughout Australia.
