Project Key Information

Provided training to the DIFC Registrar of Real Estate in order to familiarise him with the working and operations of a modern land registry organisation.

Project Narrative

To provide training to the DIFC Registrar of Real Estate in order to familiarise him with the working and operations of a modern land registry organisation.

This training included:

  1. An overview of the value of effective land registration systems
  2. An overview of legal framework and institutional arrangements for registration of titles
  3. An introduction to the role of the Land Registry
  4. A tour of the Queensland land registry
  5. An overview of strata title
  6. Buying and selling property – process, roles in the conveyancing process, hands on experience of registration activities including public counter, document flows, document checking, registration process, handling of requisitions etc
  7. Introduction to land taxation system and revenue generation streams from land registration
  8. An overview of computerisation – the process of going from a manual system to a computerised land registry.

Key services provided

The Land Registration Specialist facilitated and provided a specialist training program for the DIFC Registrar of Real Estate. This included an international program of three full days of training in Australia and offsite mentoring through personal contact telephone/email. Further the Land Registration Specialist provided a 2 day training program in Dubai including technical advice on improving the DIFC land registration system.

A well-functioning land administration system is essential for economic stability, social justice, environmental sustainability, and effective governance. Despite significant policy reform efforts by the Government of Nepal, limited capacity has challenged the integration of cadastre and land registry data, systems, and institutions to improve service delivery. It can provide rural, forestry and urban land governance expertise and assistance to support partner governments’ efforts to expand their capacity to plan, manage and implement national land administration policy, legislation and system reforms.

Vanuatu Affordable and Resilient Settlements (VARS) Project: Land Development Policy, Legal and Marketing Advisory Services

We contributed to the World Bank’s VARS project (US$25 million) by supporting the efficient and affordable supply of resilient housing in low hazard, peri-urban areas in Greater Port Vila.
