MRLG seeks an expert communication consultant — home-based or Lao PDR

MRLG seeks a Communication Consultant to support communication at the end of phase two of the project. The position may be home-based or located in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The anticipated start date is October 2022 with a contract duration of three months. While the position is short-term, the project anticipates a third phase from 2023 to 2025. Subject to mutual agreement, the contract may be converted to a long-term contract for the duration of phase three, with competitive remuneration and benefits.

            Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Consultant will work closely with the Knowledge Management and Communications Unit and Work Stream Coordination teams to develop and implement communication campaigns, products and processes. The consultant will:
  • Develop and implement a promotional campaign for the release of video content scheduled for completion in October
  • Develop and implement media campaigns for end-of-phase events including two regional and three national workshops, which will be implemented in October-December 2022
  • Develop and share with target audiences communication products related to priority initiatives, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Manage the MRG website, social media channels, and project server
  • Update and promote MRLG and alliance members activities, messages and knowledge products through the MRLG website, Facebook and Twitter
  • Finalize and disseminate a 4-page end-of-phase newsletter for MRLG stakeholders and followers

    Qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations or related field; or Bachelor’s Degree with substantial, relevant experience
  • At least five years’ similar work experience in communication
  • Experience working with civil society organisations and government stakeholders on sensitive issues
  • Familiarity with rural development issues preferred
  • Fluent English language writing and speaking abilities
  • Knowledge of the languages of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and/or Vietnam desirable
  • Extensive digital media experience, including social media and website management
  • Ability to learn new technologies and adapt quickly to changing media landscapes
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision
