Preparation of guidelines for scaling up regularisation of tenure in informal settlements.

Project Narrative

The Government in consultation with key stakeholders established the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Program (KISIP). The aim of the program was to facilitate the improvement of living conditions in the informal settlements through security of tenure and municipal infrastructure development. The program created and tested a framework for systematic improvement and continued investment in slums, one that can reach all slums over the medium to long term.

Key services provided

Reviewed the policy and legal framework as well as past regularisation experiences in Kenya and elsewhere. Prepared guidelines for scaling up regularisation of tenure in informal settlements.

Vanuatu Affordable and Resilient Settlements (VARS) Project: Land Development Policy, Legal and Marketing Advisory Services
